UNIQUE CONTEMPORARY

Il lavoro di Enrico Carpegna si snoda su direttrici diverse, con dissimilitudini a volte marcate, per abbracciare temi come la memoria storica, la natura nelle sue componenti zoologiche e vegetali, la figura umana nel suo continuo rappresentare la vita, l’acqua, mutabile per definizione, per non citarne che alcuni, e mi sono spesso chiesto incontrandolo, ma, soprattutto, confrontandomi con le sue opere, quale sia il motivo conduttore della sua visione del mondo, della sua visione della fotografia stessa e, conseguentemente, del suo fare fotografia.
Non è facile dare una risposta univoca. Probabilmente non c’è una risposta univoca. E una risposta univoca sicuramente non c’è mai, segnatamente per chi la vita la vede scorrere ed articolarsi in un continuum su piani e prospettive diverse che si avvicinano, si intersecano, si allontanano e forse danno una percezione di realtà a cose, immagini, situazioni. Di qui l’esigenza di trovare un senso a tutto ciò, di offrire delle chiavi di lettura attraverso un medium, la fotografia, che nel caso di Enrico è sostenuta da una lunga e solida pratica professionale. Una ricerca rigorosa, a volte estenuante. Stabilire quale sia lo scatto definitivo o lo stato definitivo di un’immagine è per lui spesso motivo di apprensione, non tanto perché l’approccio al mezzo con la raffinatezza che gli è propria, gli crei problemi tecnici od espressivi, ma perché, usando un bisticcio di parole, nello scatto o nello stato successivo c’è una verità più vera, una definizione più definita.
Un perfezionismo quindi non fine a sé stesso, ma finalizzato al conseguimento di significati più reconditi, allo svelamento di ciò che non appare ai più od appare sotto la coltre dell’ovvio e del banale od appare anche e attraverso o grazie all’occhio fotografico, con i suoi codici, settaggi e convenzioni, qui volti e spesso felicemente piegati al conseguimento dello scopo.
Ricerca, quindi, continua. Un occhio indagatore incessantemente aperto sulla realtà con un approccio naturalistico volto a registrare mutamenti, metamorfosi, variazioni di stato, cambiamenti di luce, di posizionamento, di orientamento, di apprezzamento. Solo così si spiegano immagini, come quelle proposte qui in mostra, di banali tuberi sottratti al mondo vegetale, lasciati al loro divenire e colti infine dal fotografo in uno stato che li fa assomigliare a pepite preziose, trasfigurandone senso e significato pur lasciandoli integri nella loro essenza. L’oro, l’argento e la preziosità intorno a noi che non tutti eravamo in grado di vedere! E la stessa cosa si può dire di arbusti, foglie, ortaggi, rami colti in prospettive di luce od avulsi da un particolare contesto per farne sculture o disegni che sanno di un elegante minimalismo zen o talora si trasformano in preziosi orditi intricati.
Eleganza, ovviamente, l’altra chiave di lettura della fotografia di Enrico Carpegna. Non un’eleganza, formale, vuota e fine a sé stessa. Certamente il portato di un grande bagaglio tecnico e una fotografia che sa raccordarsi con i grandi fotografi che l’hanno preceduto nel suo percorso di ricerca, da Frantisek Drtikol (e comunque una certa fotografia di afflato mitteleuropeo) a Irving Penn a Nobuyoshi Araki . Ma un’eleganza che nasce dall’interrelazione attenta tra il fotografo ed il soggetto indagato, sia esso una foglia, una spiaggia, un corpo umano, sempre posto in una luce colto in un momento di grande tensione espressiva.
Certo, tutto si trasforma, nulla perisce …e continua a vivere nell’arte.

YVONNE MICHIELS

Art has always been an essential part of Yvonne Michiels. Born in Eindhoven, in
1966, Yvonne, starting with drawings on paper, she developed as a multi-disciplinary
artist whose works also included acryl on canvas, mixed media, wooden sculptures,
and photography art.
Yvonne Michiels’s photo art has been exhibited all around the world, including
London, Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Milaan, New York, Miami and Instanbul. Last
year she was invited to the King Women Exhibition at the Pen And Brush Gallery in
New York City.
Yvonne Michiels tells personal stories about vulnerability, beauty, emotions and
mortality. She uses topical examples from modern society. This results in aesthetic,
innovative portraits that are not only fascinating, but often also moving. Her works are
characterised by the unusual techniques that she uses. As a result, they are
surprising, continually revealing new dimensions and bearing a highly personal
signature.
City Lights
Yvonne Michiels portrays highly fashion-conscious women who view the world with a
confident eye. These women comply with the dominant ideal of beauty achievable
through make-up, fashion and plastic surgery. They therefore look perfect. But
appearances can be deceiving. The perfect facades conceal feelings of insecurity,
despair and vulnerability. These women are struggling increasingly with the threats of
a big world which which is projected in the afro hair; the symbol of freedom.
The observer is directly affected by the strong emotional charge of the pictures.
Fading_Flowers
Who can turn away from Yvonne Michiels photograph of a quietly impressive and
confident young woman with a halo of painted flowers taken from a classic old
painting and digitally composed on her head while stunning blue glossy lips draw us
to her sensuality and uniqueness? That nimbus is not there for an inconsequential
reason, the halo of flowers from the cracking old painting speak of her old soul and
her weathered life, but the models’ beauty is in fragile bloom. According to Michiels,
in the fading-series,” the short life of flowers reflects the short life of mankind. She
incorporates the flowers of the old masters in the modern portrait. Again vulnerability
as a major theme.
